AWAKENING MY SPIRIT

This was my first, but thankfully not my last, visit from my departed Grandpa.

Not long after he shared he had 'given his legs to someone else', my cousin who suffered brain damage at birth, living immobile all 12 years, stood up and began walking.

She never stopped.
Throughout the years I have lost others who are near and dear to my heart and soul, and this gift of mediumship through the Holy Spirit has proven to me time and time again that there is no death.

There is only more and more life.

Our loved ones who have transitioned in Spirit desire nothing more than to see us happy, fuilfiled, and living the best version of ourseves. They join us each time we think of them, and send us cues and symbols to let us know they are with us.

Though unseen, they are felt, right down to our heart and soul.

When we lose someone we love deeply, it is a process of unfolding. Waves of grief, nostalgia, old triggers and woundings, feelings of abandonment...all come to the surface to be fully embraced - brought into the Light and dissolved into peace.

Our loved ones stand at the ready to offer us solace, grace, and deep healing. they have never left us, and are always looking out for us in ways seen and unseen.

On January 11, 1992, the bedrock of my family collapsed in an instant.

I don't think we realized how much we needed him, until the glue that held us all together... was gone.

Our family guru - there was really nothing he couldn't do - artist, magician, builder-and-fixer-of-all-things, masquerader of joy. More magical than Santa Claus himself, he lit up each room with his charm and his presence.

With him we felt safe, secure, an unbelievable lightness of spirit, and if you were lucky enough to be over 21 in those days, armed with some dirty jokes you couldn't share in front of Grandma.

He passed unexpectedly at the age of 62.

I will never forget the hollow within my soul when I learned the news.
Timelines had shifted overnight and I was in a bad dream. Everything unstable, ready to fall through the cracks.

And then, in my deepest of grief, he visited me.

I had just come home from school, and was feeling his absence ever more severely in the quiet. Through my tears I called out for him. And then, a waking dream - a felt-sense visual of my grandpa skiing and slaloming down a mountain in the Himalayas.

The first thought in my 13-year-old brain was, "Grandpa! You can't ski! You can't use your legs!"

He had been suffering complications from diabetes and been on crutches for several years.

Yet, before I could finish my thought, his retort, "I can do anything I want here! Besides, I gave my legs to someone else!"

Our loved ones stand at the ready to offer us solace, grace, and deep healing. Indeed, they have never left us, and are always looking out for us in ways seen and unseen.
